… It is regrettable that the masks and costumes handed down through the generations were lost because there was no one to become the head of the school in the early Meiji period, but the 14th Roppeita Nohshin took over as head of the school at a young age, and with the support of former feudal lords such as Asano, Ii, Todo, and Yamauchi, and with the help of Ki Kiwa (former Tsugaru domain), Matsuda Kametaro (former Mito domain), and Umezu Tadaen (former Fukuoka domain), the school flourished, and his ever-changing techniques were praised as those of modern masters. The current head of the school is the 15th Kita Minoru (Roppeita's adopted son), and the other members who support the school are Goto Tokuzo (real brother), Tomoeda Kikuo, Awatani Shintaro, and Kita Choyo (real son), all individually designated holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties (Living National Treasures). As of 1983, there are about 50 officially recognized followers nationwide, the fewest of the five schools. …
