This is the main temple of the Konsen school of the Fuke sect, which was established in Kogane, Shimousa Province (present Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture). It is said to have been founded by the Chinese Song monk Konsen, who came to Japan in 1254 (Kencho 6) and spread the Fuke sect, but Konsen disappeared during his travels and only Risho, who came to Japan with him, lived there. During the Edo period, ronin and destitute people lived there, but in 1677 (Enpo 5) the shogunate ordered the hiding of exiled people who had violated the Taho law. Along with Suzuhoji Temple in Musashi-Shinmachi (Ome City, Tokyo), it was known as a branch temple of the Komuso sect in the Kanto region, but it was abandoned in 1871 (Meiji 4) when the Fuke sect was abolished.
