A board with wood grain that appears as curved lines such as mountain shapes or irregular waves. When sawing logs into boards, it is made by cutting the logs along their annual rings. It is characterized by the annual ring patterns that appear as mountain shapes or spirals, which differs from straight grain, which appears in straight lines. Plank grain boards are cheaper than straight grain because they can be obtained in large quantities, but are said to have the disadvantage of warping due to shrinkage. The seams between boards are also called plank grain. Source: Renovation HomePro Renovation Glossary Information |
