Gauze - Gaze (English spelling) German

It is a very thin plain weave fabric made from loosely twisted warp and weft yarns, and is used unstarched after bleaching. The name gauze is said to come from a fabric made in Gaza, Palestine, West Asia. It absorbs moisture well, so it is used for sanitary materials such as bandages, as well as underwear, baby clothes, handkerchiefs, and toweling.

[Kadoyama Yukihiro]

There are two types of gauze: woven coarse gauze and degreased degreased gauze. For medical use, degreased gauze that has been sterilized and adjusted in accordance with the regulations of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia is used. It is sold in packaged sizes of 30 cm wide and 1 meter long for home use, 5 meter long for childbirth, and 10 meter long for hospital use. It can be used as is if there is no risk of bacterial infection, but it must be sterilized before use for wound treatment or surgery. It is used in a wide range of applications in the medical field, and is an indispensable hygienic material. When gauze was not available in Japan, bleached cotton was cut into 10-20 cm pieces, unraveled to make scattered threads, and flattened to make cotton scattered threads or "hosshimomen," which were used to apply to wounds.
