...It is a song to celebrate a big catch, and is widely distributed along the coasts of Japan. The most famous is "Tairyo-bushi" from Choshi, Chiba Prefecture. In 1864 (Genji 1), a year of bumper catches of sardines, three fishermen, Ajiro Kyusaburo, Matsumoto Kyoko, and Ishimori Rihei, wrote ten verses in counting song form to commemorate the big catch, and the music was composed by Yucho, a master of Tokiwazu.
