…A military commander in the early Southern Song Dynasty of China. His pen name was Pengju. Born into a farming family in Tangyin (Tangyin County, Henan Province), he joined the volunteer army at the age of 20, and after achieving many military feats, at the age of 27 he became independent and led the Yue Family Army. In 1134 (4th year of Shaoxing), he became a general in the regional army based in Ezhou (Wuhan), and the following year he put down the rebellion of Zhongxiang and Yang Yi in Hunan. In 1136 he invaded Xiangyang and fought against the Jin army in Hubei and Henan, preventing them from advancing south. In 1137 he became a pacifying envoy and became one of the highest military leaders. His army was known for its strict discipline and fighting power. …
