A haiku poet of the mid-Edo period. Born into the Kizu family, he was adopted into the Hattori family, a samurai of the Todo clan in Iga Ueno. His real name was Yasuhide. He was commonly known as Hanzaemon. His first name was Roba. His other names were Minomushi-an and Sachuan. He learned haiku from Basho at the age of nine, and at the age of 29, he reunited with Basho for the first time in twenty years. At the age of 32, he retired from his service and retired to devote himself to haiku, becoming a central figure in the Iga school of Sho. He wrote the "Sansatsusho" (Three Books), which summarized Basho's teachings, and edited three books, the compilation of Basho's works, "Shoo Kushu", "Shoo Bunshu", and "Oku no Hosomichi". 江戸中期の俳諧師。木津氏に生まれ,伊賀上野の藤堂藩士服部家の養子となった。本名,保英(やすひで)。通称,半左衛門。初号,芦馬(ろば)。別号,蓑虫庵(みのむしあん),些中庵(さちゅうあん)。9歳のとき芭蕉から俳諧を学び,29歳のとき20年ぶりに芭蕉と再会。32歳で致仕して隠棲し,俳諧に専念して伊賀蕉門の中心的存在となった。芭蕉の教えをまとめた《三冊子》を著し,芭蕉作品の集大成《蕉翁句集》《蕉翁文集》《おくの細道》の三部の書を編集した。
