Driving school - driving school

A facility that teaches driving skills, laws, and knowledge of vehicle structure. In Japan, there is no specific legal basis for operating a driving school. However, if the facility, personnel, and content of the training meet certain standards set out in Article 98 of the Road Traffic Act (Act No. 105 of 1960), the Prefectural Public Safety Commission designates the school as a designated driving school. The subjects, training hours, and training methods for practical and academic training at designated driving schools are set out in the Enforcement Regulations of the Road Traffic Act. In addition, the appointment of skill instructors, academic instructors, and skill examiners who meet certain requirements is mandatory. Once a student has completed the required training and passed the graduation test administered by the skill examiner, he or she is exempt from the practical test in the driver's license examination administered by the Prefectural Public Safety Commission. As of the end of 2000, there were 1,508 designated driving schools and 251 non-designated driving schools, and the number of people who graduated from designated driving schools that year was 2,008,515, accounting for 94.8% of those who obtained new driver's licenses (Police White Paper).
