...An official in the Nara period. A descendant of the famous Soga clan. His great-grandfather, Soga no Murajiko, was a minister in the reign of Emperor Tenchi, and his father, Ishikawa Iwatari, also rose to the rank of Junior Third Rank. Toshiari first served as a junior judge and local official. He was a capable and honest official, and in 739 (Tenpyo 11), he was praised for his good governance as the governor of Izumo Province. When Fujiwara no Nakamaro rose to power in the middle of the Nara period, Toshiari was highly valued under his administration, and in 749 (Tenpyo Shoho 1), while still serving as Shikibukyo, he also served as Daihitsu (vice minister) of Shibichudai, Nakamaro's base, and became a councilor. ...

…奈良時代の官人。名族蘇我氏の末裔にあたる。曾祖父蘇我連子は天智朝の大臣，父石川石足（いわたり）も従三位にまで昇った。年足は最初，少判事，地方官などを歴任した。官人として有能，廉勤であり，739年(天平11)には，出雲国守としてその善政を賞せられている。奈良時代中葉，藤原仲麻呂が台頭してくると，年足はその政権下で重用され，749年(天平勝宝1)には式部卿のまま，仲麻呂が拠点とした紫微中台（しびちゆうだい）の大弼(次官)を兼ね，参議となった。…
