Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A samurai from the late Kamakura period. Despite being disowned by his father Yasumitsu, he converted to Nichiren and in 1282 (Kōan 5), he welcomed Nichiren to Ikegami-go in Musashi as he was on his way from Mt. Minobu to Hitachi, encouraging him to recuperate there. However, after Nichiren passed away in vain, he built a temple on his estate and further built a temple to house Nichiren's portrait on the seventh anniversary of his death. This was the beginning of Ikegami Honmonji Temple. (Fumihiko Gomi) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc. About Asahi Japanese Historical Biography |
