Ikegami Munenaka

Japanese: 池上宗仲 - いけがみ・むねなか

Year of birth: Year of birth and death unknown. A samurai from the late Kamakura period. Despite being disowned by his father Yasumitsu, he converted to Nichiren and in 1282 (Kōan 5), he welcomed Nichiren to Ikegami-go in Musashi as he was on his way from Mt. Minobu to Hitachi, encouraging him to recuperate there. However, after Nichiren passed away in vain, he built a temple on his estate and further built a temple to house Nichiren's portrait on the seventh anniversary of his death. This was the beginning of Ikegami Honmonji Temple.

鎌倉後期の武士。父康光の勘当に屈せずに日蓮に帰依し,弘安5(1282)年には身延山を出て常陸に向かう途中の日蓮を武蔵池上郷に迎えて療養を勧め,それも空しく日蓮が没したことから邸内に寺院を建立し,さらに日蓮の七回忌に御影像を安置する寺院を建立した。これが池上本門寺の始まりである。
