The eastern region, which is part of the Paris Basin, is called "Anjou blanc" (white Anjou) and is divided into the Bougeois region, a forested area on the north bank of the Loire, and the Saumurois region on the south bank, where grapes and mushrooms are cultivated. Grape cultivation in the Anjou region, known for its slightly sweet rosé wine, is mainly carried out in the Saumurois region, which has a cultivation area of ​​about 30,000 hectares and is centered around the hills of Saumur and Layon, accounting for four-fifths of the total.
