Vappu

...Seasonal events include the Kalevala Festival on February 28th and Runeberg Festival on February 5th. On May 1st, "Vappu Day," male and female university students and graduates parade through the town wearing white caps. Vappu is a contraction of the name of a Catholic saint, Valpuri, who was martyred in the 780s, and is a fusion of her anniversary and a pagan Germanic summer festival.
