Born: October 27, 1759, Ellsheim
[Died] August 22, 1831. Széphalom Hungarian writer. Born into an aristocratic family. As a school inspector, he worked hard to democratize education and introduced Western European literature through his translations of works by Shakespeare, Goethe, and others. In 1794, he was arrested for participating in an anti-government organization and spent six years in prison. After his release, he returned to his hometown and continued his literary activities, publishing satirical poems such as Tövisek és virágok (1811) and others. He also played a major role in reforming the Hungarian language, introducing many new words. His works Pályám emlékezete (28), which is set against the backdrop of society and literature of the time, and Fogságom naplója (My Prison Diary), published posthumously, are also famous.

ハンガリーの作家。貴族の出身。視学官として教育の民主化に尽力し，シェークスピア，ゲーテらの作品の翻訳を通じて西ヨーロッパ文学の紹介に努めた。 1794年反政府運動の組織に加わったため逮捕され，6年間獄中生活をおくった。出獄後は郷里に帰って文学活動を続け，風刺詩集『とげと花』 Tövisek és virágok (1811) その他を発表。ハンガリー語の改革にも大きな役割を果し，多くの新しい単語を導入した。当時の社会と文学を背景とした『わが生涯の回想』 Pályám emlékezete (28) ，死後出版された『わが獄中日記』 Fogságom naplójaも有名。
