Daily seat - Hiyoza

Japanese:
Daily seat - Hiyoza
Also written as "Nichiyoza." This was an organization established by the Edo Shogunate to control day laborers in Edo city. It was issued by the Shogunate in 1665 (Kanbun 5), but earlier, in 1653 (Shoo 2), the Shogunate had ordered day laborers to receive day labor tags from the top of their heads in an attempt to control day laborers, and this was a further strengthening of that order. At first, Yasui Chozaemon and Tsuji Kanshiro from Hakuyacho were appointed as Nichiyoza, and the targets of the order included day laborers such as scaffolders, hand laborers, rice saddlers, carriers, and light basket carriers (later it was expanded to include palanquin carriers, government day laborers, and commuter day laborers).
