《Ii Tairo》 - Iitairou

…[Ono Masao] In the Edo period, it was legally forbidden to stage the Sakuradamon Incident, but Kawatake Mokuami adapted it to the world of the Soga clan, and arranged for the Soga brothers to approach Suketsune's vehicle in the snow. The play was performed as Chochidori Suma no Kumiuchi (Chochidori Suma Kumuchi) (February 1863, Edo Ichimuraza), but was ordered to be canceled. In the early Meiji period, the ban was lifted and attempts were made to turn it into a kabuki play, but the dramatization of historical fact had to wait until July 1920, when The Death of Ii Tairo (written by Nakamura Kichizo) was performed at the Tokyo Kabukiza. This work, a socially-driven historical drama, depicts the Prime Minister Naosuke, who, while suffering during the collapse of the shogunate, carries out his own policies. …

…【小野 正雄】　桜田門外の変を舞台化することは江戸期には法的に禁じられていたが，河竹黙阿弥の手で，曾我の世界に脚色，雪中に曾我兄弟が祐経の乗物に近づく趣向を構え《蝶千鳥須磨組討（ちようちどりすまのくみうち）》(1863年2月，江戸市村座)として上演したが中止を命じられた。明治初年には解禁となり歌舞伎化も試みられたが，史実を劇化するには1920年7月東京歌舞伎座の《井伊大老の死》(中村吉蔵作)をまたねばならなかった。この作では社会劇的な歴史劇として，幕府崩壊期に苦悩しつつ自己の政策を断行する宰相直弼が形象化された。…
