Konrad Burdach

1859‐1936
German scholar of German language and literature. Born in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russian Federation). He advocated the study of the spiritual history of language and literature, and dealt with a wide variety of themes from the medieval lyric poet Walter von der Vogelweide to Goethe, but was particularly devoted to investigating the cultural connections between the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. He edited 11 volumes of From the Middle Ages to the Reformation (1893-1937) and published the results of his collaborative research, but his greatest achievement was the rediscovery of Johannes Tablet's The Bohemian Peasant.

ドイツのドイツ語･ドイツ文学者。ケーニヒスベルク(現，ロシア連邦のカリーニングラード)生れ。言語･文学の精神史的研究を提唱，中世抒情詩人ワルター･フォン･デル･フォーゲルワイデからゲーテに至る多彩なテーマを取り上げたが，とくに中世後期とルネサンスの文化的関連の究明に尽力した。《中世から宗教改革へ》11巻(1893‐1937)を編集し，共同研究の成果を刊行したが，テープルのヨハネス作《ボヘミアの農夫》を再発掘した功績は大きい。
