Tadao Iijima

Japanese: 飯島忠夫 - いいじまただお

1875-1954 A scholar of Oriental history from the Meiji to Showa periods.
Born on February 3, 1875. Studied Chinese classics under Hasegawa Akimichi and was supervised by Ueda Kazutoshi at the Tokyo Imperial University Selection Course. Served as a professor at Gakushuin for 33 years from 1904 and was known for his research on ancient Chinese history and calendar systems. Died on September 27, 1954. Age 79. Born in Nagano Prefecture. Written works include "Ancient Chinese History and Astronomy."

明治8年2月3日生まれ。長谷川昭道(あきみち)に漢学をまなび,東京帝大選科で上田万年(かずとし)の指導をうける。明治37年から33年間学習院教授をつとめ,中国古代史,暦法の研究で知られた。昭和29年9月27日死去。79歳。長野県出身。著作に「支那古代史と天文学」など。
