This is a 50-volume book compiled by Wei Zheng and other learned officials by imperial order of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty in China. It was compiled in 631. It is a compilation of clauses extracted from over 60 types of texts, including classic histories and writings by various scholars, which served as references for rulers. It was quickly lost in China, but the copies that were brought to Japan were treasured by the imperial family and samurai. In 1616 (Genwa 2), a version printed with old movable type was printed by Tokugawa Ieyasu in Suruga, followed by the Tenmei version in the Owari Domain and the Koka version in the Kishu Domain, and became widely used. The Imperial Household Agency Archives and Mausolea Department preserves an ancient manuscript (volumes 4, 13, and 20 are missing, totaling 47 scrolls) from the Kanazawa Bunko, which was the original for the published version. This book is valued for including lost works such as "Zang Rongxu's Book of Jin" and "New Treatises of Huanzi," as well as ancient and rare commentaries such as "Comments on the Analects by Zheng Xuan" and "Comments on the Book of Han by Cai Mo."
