This is also called the "problem of aggregation." When trying to understand the current state of the national economy and past empirical conditions, and to make predictions about the future, analysis (macroanalysis) is carried out using economic variables that are statistically easy to handle, such as price indexes and gross national product (GNP). However, price indexes and GNP do not exist as such. In the real economy, there are a great many prices depending on the number of goods, and price indexes are the average of these prices in a certain way, that is, a kind of "aggregate." 〈集計の問題〉ともいう。国民経済の現状や過去の経験的状況を把握し,さらに将来の予測をたてる場合,物価指数や国民総生産(GNP)など,統計的に扱いやすい経済変数を用いた分析(巨視的(マクロ)分析)が行われている。しかし物価指数やGNPなどは,それ自体として存在するものではない。実際,現実の経済では財の数に応じて非常に多くの価格が存在するが,物価指数は,これらの価格を一定の方法で平均したもの,つまりは一種の〈集計量aggregates〉である。
