〘Noun〙 (also "kiribaku")① A method of decorating paper using gold and silver foil. The foil is cut into various shapes and sprinkled onto a thin layer of paste. ※The Seventy-First Artisan Poetry Contest (around 1500), No. 52 "The light of the beaten paper, polished and beaten, the light of the cut foil is different in the autumn night moon"② Finely cut gold and silver foil for maki-e (lacquer painting) . ※Koshikata no Ki (1961)〈Kaburagi Kiyokata〉Ugokai "Yamato-e artists usually have special techniques for sand, cut foil, and dorohiki ( mud painting) ."③ Gold and silver foil is pasted onto torinoko paper with lacquer, and then cut into thin strips vertically. 〘名〙 (「きりばく」とも)① 金銀の箔を用いた紙の装飾法。種々の形に切った箔を、薄く糊を塗った上にまき落とす。※七十一番職人歌合(1500頃か)五二番「たたう紙みがき打ちたる切はくの光ことなる秋のよの月」② 蒔絵(まきえ)用の、細かく切った金銀の箔。※こしかたの記(1961)〈鏑木清方〉烏合会「大和絵の人は、砂子、切箔、泥引などに特殊の技法を有つのが常だが」③ 金銀の箔を漆(うるし)で鳥子紙(とりのこがみ)にはりつけ、これを紙の竪(たて)方向に細く切ったもの。金銀糸の代用として織物に用いる。④ 細かい粉末状のものをたとえていう。※咄本・口合恵宝袋(1755)二「静にひきまはせ、茶がきりはくになってをりる、それでなければ濃茶にならぬ」
