Also in the same year, the signboard above the decorative box exhibited by Tanizawa Teizo at the Tokyo Prefectural Factory Exhibition had the character kaban (bag), which was a combination of the two characters kawabō (leather pouch) and was commonly called kawaban (leather board) at the time. The kanji kaban originally referred to tanned leather and leather tanners. …
