1580‐1658 An enlightened politician and scholar of practical science in the mid-Yi dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Baekho, and his pen name was Gwanggok. He was from Cheongpung. His great-great-grandfather was Kim Pan, one of the Eight Sages who were killed in the 1519 Samurai Plague. He made use of his rich experience, having lived in the countryside (Gwanggok) in his 30s, as a local official in his 40s, and traveled to Beijing several times (as a winter solstice envoy, etc.) from his 50s onwards, to hold important positions such as Gwansanggamticho and Yeonguisei, and implemented various reforms such as the implementation of the Siheon calendar and the popularization of the Daedongbo (new tax system).
