The European brown bear subspecies that lives in southern Europe reaches a body length of 1.2 to 1.5 meters, while the Kodiak bear subspecies that lives in Alaska and Kodiak Island reaches a body length of 2.8 meters and weighs 780 kg. The Yezo brown bear subspecies that lives in Hokkaido reaches a body length of around 2 meters. The Asiatic black bear (illustration) is distributed from the Himalayas and Myanmar to China, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
