The Tale of Money-makers (English: Huò zhí liè zhuàn)

Japanese: 貨殖列伝 - かしょくれつでん（英語表記）Huò zhí liè zhuàn

This is one of the biographies in the Chinese official history books, the Records of the Grand Historian and the Book of Han. The Records of the Grand Historian describes the economic activities of wealthy people from the end of the Spring and Autumn Period to the beginning of the Han Period (5th century BC to 1st century AD), describing the differences in economic geography and culture of each region, while approving of the pursuit of wealth and highly praising the ability to succeed in it. In contrast, the Book of Han, apart from adding a few accounts of wealthy people from the Han period after the Records of the Grand Historian, criticizes the accumulation of wealth through commercial activities from an agrarian standpoint. 中国の正史《史記》と《漢書》の列伝の中の一編。《史記》では春秋末から漢初(前5～後1世紀)に及ぶ富豪たちの経済行為を述べ，各地の経済地理や気風の相違を記述するとともに，富の追求を是認し，それに成功する能力を高く評価する。《漢書》は反対に，《史記》以後の漢代の富豪を若干補うほかは，農本主義の立場から商行為による蓄財を非難する。以後の正史に貨殖伝はない。【川勝義雄】
