An old town in Hōsu County in the northwest of Noto Peninsula, Ishikawa Prefecture. The area in front of the temple developed as a temple town for Sojiji Temple. The head temple was burned down in 1898 and moved to Yokohama City, and this place became the temple's ancestor. The main industries are agriculture, forestry and fishing, and the town is home to Saruyama Cape and Kotogahama Beach, which are part of the Noto Peninsula Quasi-National Park. 石川県能登半島北西部にある鳳珠(ほうす)郡の旧町。中心の門前は総持寺の門前町として発達。本山は1898年焼失後横浜市に移り,当地は祖院となった。農林業,漁業が主で,能登半島国定公園に属する猿山岬,琴ヶ浜がある。2006年2月輪島市へ編入。157.54km2。8461人(2003)。
