A port city on the Straits of Malacca, 40 km southwest of Kuala Lumpur in the southwest of the Malay Peninsula, Malaysia. Until 1972 it was called Port Swettenham. Along with Pinang, it is one of the major ports on the west coast of the country, and with the development of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya it became the largest port in the country in terms of cargo handling volume. It has well-developed port facilities and 12 wharves. It mainly exports rubber and tin, and imports industrial raw materials and manufactured goods. Light industry is also thriving, with factories producing canned pineapples, rubber shoes, etc. Population: 192,080 (1980).

マレーシア，マレー半島南西部，クアラルンプール南西 40km，マラッカ海峡にのぞむ港湾都市。 1972年まではポートスウェテナム Port Swettenhamと呼ばれた。ピナンとともに同国西岸の主要港で，クアラルンプールやペタリンジャヤの発展とともに荷扱い量は同国1位となった。港湾施設も整い，12の埠頭がある。おもにゴム，スズを輸出し，工業用原料，工業製品を輸入する。ほかに軽工業も盛んで，パイナップル缶詰，ゴム靴などの工場がある。人口 19万 2080 (1980) 。
