Vésone (English spelling)

...Population: 33,000 (1990). Originating from the Gallo-Roman city of Vésone (Vesuna), it flourished as the capital of the Périgord region since the 5th century. In the Middle Ages, the fortress Château Barrière and the cathedral were built on the site, while a town developed around the pilgrimage site of Puy-Saint-Front, a short distance away. The two were united into a single urban community in 1251.
