The Far East

…In November 1861 (Bunkyu 1), he became editor-in-chief of the Japan Herald, which was first published in Yokohama, and in 1867 (Keio 3), he moved to the Japan Gazette, also in Yokohama, where he served as editor-in-chief. At the same time, in 1870 he launched the bimonthly illustrated English magazine The Far East, which was well received and continued to be published until 1876. However, the project that made him famous was the publication of the Japanese newspaper Nisshin Shinjishi. …
