Androsterone

A metabolite of androgen. A male hormone isolated from adult male urine by AFJ Butenandt et al. (1934). Colorless crystals with a melting point of 185-185.5°C. It is sparingly soluble in water but readily soluble in most organic solvents. It is the standard substance for the international unit of male hormone activity, with 1 international unit being the increase in the comb area of a castrated rooster caused by 0.1 mg of it. Its biological activity is about one-tenth that of testosterone. It was synthesized from cholesterol by LS Ruzicka et al. (34) and its structure was determined.

アンドロゲンの代謝物の1つ。 A.F.J.ブーテナントらにより成年男子尿から単離された (1934) 男性ホルモン。融点 185～185.5℃の無色結晶。水には難溶であるが，多くの有機溶媒には易溶。男性ホルモン作用の国際単位の基準物質で，その 0.1mgによる去勢雄鶏のとさか部面積の増加の程度に等しい作用を1国際単位としている。生物活性はテストステロンの約1/10程度。 L.S.ルジチカらによりコレステリンから合成され (34) ，構造が確定した。
