An old town on the Shima Peninsula in Shima District, Mie Prefecture. Cape Anori is at the northeastern end, and Kashikojima Island is in Ago Bay to the south. It is one of the centers of Ise-Shima National Park. Pearl and blue seaweed farming and seafood processing are thriving here. The Kintetsu Shima Line runs through the town. In October 2004, it merged with Hamajima Town, Daio Town, Shima Town, and Isobe Town in Shima District to form Shima City. 43.88 km2 . Population 23,509 (2003). 三重県志摩郡，志摩半島にある旧町。北東端に安乗(あのり)崎，南の英虞(あご)湾に賢島(かしこじま)があり，伊勢志摩国立公園の一中心。真珠・青ノリの養殖，水産加工が盛ん。近鉄志摩線が通じる。2004年10月志摩郡浜島町，大王町，志摩町，磯部町と合併し，志摩市となる。43.88km2。２万3509人（2003）。
