Uchinada Sand Dunes

Sand dunes developed around Uchinada-cho, Kahoku-gun, Ishikawa Prefecture. Facing the Sea of ​​Japan, they stretch from Awasaki-cho in Kanazawa City to Kahoku City, stretching for about 10 kilometers in length and 1 kilometer in width, with the Kahokugata Lagoon on the inside. They are 61.3 meters high and consist of two layers of sand dunes, an old one and a new one, and stone tools and pottery from the middle Jomon period to the end of the Yayoi period have been excavated at the border between them. Robinia pseudoacacia and black pine are planted on the sand dunes to prevent sand from flying, and rare plants such as rose hips and sea violets are also found. In connection with the Kahokugata Lagoon reclamation work, a spillway was dug into the sand dunes to create a drainage channel, and the southern side has become an urbanized area for the construction of Kanazawa Port and residential areas in the suburbs of Kanazawa, with the private Kanazawa Medical University and its hospital located there. The Noto Toll Road runs through the area, and the Hokuriku Railroad Asanogawa Line connects to Uchinada-cho. Kahoku City is home to the Sand Dune Agricultural Experiment Station (Ishikawa Prefectural Agricultural Research Center), famous for the Uchinada Incident of 1953 (Showa 28).

石川県河北(かほく)郡内灘町を中心に発達する砂丘。日本海に面し、金沢市粟崎(あわがさき)町からかほく市に及び、延長約10キロメートル、幅約1キロメートル、内側に河北潟を抱く。最高点は61.3メートルで、新旧2層の砂丘からなり、その境に縄文中期から弥生(やよい)末期の石器、土器類を出土する。砂丘上は飛砂防止のニセアカシア、クロマツを栽植し、ハマナス、イソスミレなど貴重な植物もある。河北潟干拓工事に伴い、砂丘を掘り割って放水路が設けられ、南側は金沢港の築港や金沢の近郊住宅地として都市化が進み、私立金沢医科大学、同病院がある。能登(のと)有料道路が走り、北陸鉄道浅野川線が内灘町まで通じる。かほく市には砂丘地農業試験場（石川県農業総合研究センター）がある。1953年（昭和28）の内灘事件で有名。
