A village in Ena County, on the eastern edge of Gifu Prefecture. Population 3,442 (1995). A mountain village located on the upper reaches of Shirakawa (Kashimo River), a tributary of the Hida River. Most of the area is steep mountainous terrain, including Mt. Mikuni (1,611m), part of the Ontake mountain range. National Route 257 runs along the Kashimo River, which flows through the mountains, and settlements are scattered throughout the area. In addition to agriculture and forestry, lumber companies are also located here. The area upstream of the Tsukechi River is a national forest area that produces high-quality Tono Hinoki cypress. The village area is part of the Ura Kiso Prefectural Natural Park, and the area around Otome Valley is a youth travel village. 岐阜県東端,恵那郡の村。人口3442(1995)。飛驒川の支流白川上流(加子母川)に位置する山村。大部分は三国山(1611m)をはじめとする御岳山系の急峻な山地で,山間を流れる加子母川沿いに国道257号線が走り,集落が点在する。農林業のほか製材業が立地する。付知川上流一帯は国有林地帯で東濃ヒノキの優良材を産する。村域は裏木曾県立自然公園に属し,乙女渓谷付近は青少年旅行村となっている。下呂町との境の舞台峠付近にある加子母の大杉は天然記念物に指定されている。
