A rather large seaweed in the brown algae family Laminariales, Laminariales. Also called Noro-kajime. It grows on rocks in the bathyal zone. The lower part of the alga is cylindrical, while the upper part is thickened in the center and surrounded by many long, leaf-like lobes. It can reach a total length of 1 to 2 meters. It is leathery and hard, making it unsuitable for consumption. It was used as a source of iodine and alginic acid. 褐藻類コンブ目コンブ科でやや大型の海藻。ノロカジメともいう。漸深帯深部の岩上に着生する。藻体の下部は円柱状,上部は中央が肥厚し,その周囲は葉状で多くの長い裂片となる。全長1~2mに達する。革質で硬いので食用には不適当。ヨードやアルギン酸の原料として用いられた。
