Located in Unebi-cho, Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, this settlement site dates back to the final Jomon period. It was investigated by the Kashihara Archaeological Institute in 1938 (Showa 13) in conjunction with the expansion project of the Kashihara Shrine outer gardens to commemorate the 2,600th anniversary of the founding of the Imperial Jōmon period. As well as being a type site for Kashihara-type pottery, the excavation of a large amount of Obora-type pottery found in the Tohoku region provided an opportunity to consider cultural exchange over a wide area. Obora-type pottery underwent a major change in the middle of the final period (C2 style and onwards), and it can be inferred that it was at this stage that the Yayoi culture spread to the Nara Basin.
