A function that identically satisfies f(-x) = -f(x). For example, f(x) = x 3 , f(x) = sin x. A function is called an even function when it identically satisfies f(-x) = f(x). For example, f(x) = x 2 , f(x) = cos x. A graph of y = f(x) is symmetric about the origin if it is an odd function, and symmetric about the y-axis if it is an even function. Any function can be uniquely expressed as the sum of an odd function and an even function. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
