A city in the southern part of the Nara Basin in Nara Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1956. It was one of the centers of ancient culture, including part of the Asuka region, and is home to many historical sites, including the Yamato Sanzan, the tomb of Emperor Jimmu, the remains of Fujiwara-kyo, the remains of Hon-Yakushi-ji Temple, Kumedera Temple, the Shobudaike Tomb, and Kashihara Shrine. The city has developed in the old town areas of Yagi, Unebi, and Imai, and is served by the Sakurai Line and the Kintetsu Osaka, Minami-Osaka, and Kashihara Lines. In recent years, the city has seen rapid development into residential areas, and the population continues to grow. In rural areas, strawberries, green asparagus, and persimmons are cultivated. There is a forest park, Kashihara Park, and the Yamato History Museum, and Imai, which flourished as a temple town, still retains its old streetscape. 39.56 km2 . 125,605 people (2010).

奈良県奈良盆地南部の市。1956年市制。上代文化の一中心で,飛鳥(あすか)地方の一部を含み,大和三山,神武天皇陵,藤原京跡,本薬師寺跡,久米寺,菖蒲池古墳,橿原神宮など史跡が多い。八木,畝傍(うねび),今井の旧町地区に市街が発達,桜井線,近鉄の大阪・南大阪・橿原各線が通じ,近年住宅地化が著しく,人口の増加が続いている。農村部ではイチゴ,グリーンアスパラガス,花卉(かき)栽培が盛ん。森林公園,橿原公苑,大和歴史館があり,寺内町として栄えた今井は古い町並みを残している。39.56km2。12万5605人(2010)。
