A former village area in northern Niigata Prefecture, northern Shibata City. It is located on the right bank of the Kaji River, in the northern part of the Niigata Plain. In 1955, Kaji Village and Kanazuka Village were merged to form Kajikawa Village. In 2005, it was incorporated into Shibata City. It is divided into an old mountain settlement on the east side and a new rice field settlement on the west side, which was created by the reclamation of Shiunjigata Lake after the mid-Edo period. In addition to early-season rice, it produces shiitake mushrooms and vegetables. The Tochidaira cherry forest on Mt. Omine is a national natural monument. The famous cherry blossom spot on the Kaji River embankment was cut down and disappeared due to restoration work after two floods in 1966 and 1967. The Okuyamaso Castle Ruins are designated as a national historic site. Part of it belongs to Tainai-Nioji Prefectural Natural Park.KajigawaSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
