Same-sex non-marriage - douseifukon

People with the same surname should not intermarry. In China, where patrilineal blood ties are important, the Han people had a custom of not marrying people with the same surname, and not adopting children with different surnames. However, this norm was not always strictly observed, and especially among the lower social classes, people with the same surname could intermarry if there was no actual genealogical connection. However, there were also cases where same-surname marriage was viewed as extremely dishonorable and was disliked, and if people with the same surname married, they would be deprived of the right to participate in ancestral festivals or refused to have their names listed in the family tree. The norm of not marrying people with the same surname was also practiced in Korea, but did not take root in Japan.

姓を同じくする者同士は通婚しないこと。父系血縁が重視される中国、漢人の間では「同姓不婚、異姓不養(いせいふよう)」といって、姓が同じであれば結婚せず、養子をとる際には逆に、同姓の者に限る習俗が行われてきた。もっとも、同姓不婚という規範はつねに厳密に守られていたわけではなく、とくに社会的な下層者の間では、実際の系譜的なつながりが認められなければ同姓でも通婚することがあった。しかし、同姓婚を非常に不名誉なこととして嫌う場合もあり、同姓者同士が結婚した場合は、祖先の祭りに参加する権利を剥奪(はくだつ)されたり、族譜(ぞくふ)（系図）上に名前を記載することを拒絶されたりすることもあった。同姓不婚の規範は朝鮮でも行われてきたが、日本には定着しなかった。
