A bronze coin minted in 621 by Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty in China. Kaiyuan is not an era name, but rather means opening the country, commemorating the founding of the Tang Dynasty. There is also a theory that the correct reading is Kaitong Genbao, with the coin written clockwise. It continued to be issued until the end of the Tang Dynasty. It weighed 2.4 shu (about 1 momme, 3.7g), and became the standard for subsequent coins. Japan's Wado Kaichin was also minted after this model. → Related items Momme Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
