Sikhote-Alin' (mountain range)

Japanese: シホテ･アリン[山脈]（英語表記）Sikhote‐Alin’

A mid-mountain range in the Russian Far East, spanning Khabarovsk Oblast and Primorsky Krai. It forms the watershed between the Sea of Japan side and the Amur River basin (flowing into the Sea of Okhotsk). It runs from northeast to southwest along the northwest coast of the Sea of Japan, with a length of 1,200 km, a width of 200-250 km, and an average elevation of 800-1,000 m. The highest point is Toldoki Yani Peak (2,077 m) at around 49° north latitude. There are also flat-topped hills and plateau-like parts, and a river runs deeply incised between the mountain massif. The mountain is made up of Mesozoic sandstone, slate, and other rocks, but in some parts plutonic rocks such as granite can be seen.

ロシア連邦極東地方，ハバロフスク州と沿海州にまたがる中山性の山地。日本海側とアムール川流域(オホーツク海に注ぐ)の分水界となっている。日本海北西岸に沿い，長さ1200km，幅200～250km，平均標高800～1000mで，北東から南西方向に続く。最高点は北緯49゜付近のトルドキ･ヤニ峰(2077m)。平頂丘や高原状の部分もあり，山塊の間を深く下刻した川が流れる。山体は中生層の砂岩･粘板岩そのほかからなるが，一部には花コウ岩など深成岩も見られる。
