The first radio source discovered in the constellation Cassiopeia. In the meter to centimeter wave range, where observations are often made in the field of radio astronomy, it is the strongest radio source in the entire sky, and is therefore used as a standard source of radio intensity and a standard for antenna gain calibration. Although there are no historical records, it is the remnant of a supernova that exploded about 300 years ago, and the radio source spreads out in a ring shape with a visual diameter of about 4 arcminutes, indicating that the radio source has a shell structure. Optical observations also show that nebula-like material is distributed along the distribution of the radio source. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
