Bion - Bion (English spelling)

Date of birth and death unknown. Ancient Greek pastoral poet. Lived in the 2nd century BC. Born in Prosa in Asia Minor, he spent most of his life on the island of Sicily. His most famous work, the Lamentation of Adonis, is a lyric work that sings of the death of Adonis and the grief of the goddess Aphrodite, and its language and motifs are strongly influenced by Theocritus. A few other fragments of poetry remain. These poems have love as their theme, and almost no pastoral elements can be found. His writing style is simple and plain.

生没年不詳。古代ギリシアの牧歌詩人。紀元前2世紀の人。小アジアのプロサに生まれ、生涯のほとんどをシチリア島で過ごした。代表作『アドニス哀悼歌』は、アドニスの死と女神アフロディテの悲しみを歌う叙情的な作品で、その言語やモチーフはテオクリトスの影響を強く受けている。このほか、若干の詩の断片が残存する。これらの詩は愛を主題としており、牧歌的要素はほとんど認められない。文体は素朴で平明である。
