...The oppressive Arab rule was relaxed after the revolt of 851, and in 885 the throne was given to Ashot of the Bagratid dynasty, who had been the leader of the great princes. On the other hand, the Ar-Turni dynasty, which had vast territories in southeastern Armenia, opposed Ashot's accession to the throne, but ultimately recognized the Bagratid dynasty's status as "king of kings" and established the Basprakan Kingdom (908). From the beginning, the position of the princes was strong in the Bagratid dynasty, and in addition, the royal power was divided and inherited, so by the second half of the 10th century the kingdom had become a collection of small territories under multiple crowns. ...
