A translation of "interdependence." It began to be used in the latter half of the 1970s as a concept that refers to the characteristics of the international system, and refers to the increase in economic, political, and military mutual dependence based on the increase in each country's economic dependence on other countries due to the development of international trade under the postwar free trade system. It also refers to the new situation brought about by such increased interdependence. It is contrasted with a relationship of domination and subordination. In their book Power and Interdependence (1977), American Joseph Nye and Robert Keohane explain the characteristics of interdependence using the words "vulnerability" and "sensitivity." "Vulnerability" refers to the extent of the damage each party will suffer if the interdependence is severed, and "sensitivity" refers to the extent of the impact that interdependence has on each other. Generally, the deeper the interdependence, the greater the "vulnerability" and "sensitivity." →Hegemony→Related topicsSecurity|Globalization|International opinion Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
