Taygete (English spelling)

In Greek mythology, the seven daughters of the Titan gods Atlas and Pleione (daughter of Oceanus), Alkyonē, Merope, Celaino, Electra, Asterope, Taygetē, and Maia (mother of the messenger god Hermes). They and their mother were pursued by the hunter Orion in the forests of Boeotia for five years, so Zeus, taking pity on them, made both mother and daughter and their pursuer ascend to the heavens, transforming Orion into a hunter with dogs, and the daughters into seven doves (peleiades in ancient Greek) trying to escape from Orion.
