Arimine

Japanese:
Arimine

A district in the southeast of Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture. Located at the source of the Wada River, a tributary of the Joganji River, the residents worship Mt. Yakushi (2,926 meters) in an isolated mountain basin and make a living by growing millet, buckwheat, and bracken flour. It is said that during the Sengoku period, Nakachiyama Castle on the left bank of the Joganji River fell to the Uesugi forces, and the Kawakami clan fled to Arimine and lived here. In 1921 (Taisho 10), Toyama Prefecture purchased the entire basin with plans to build a dam, and the residents were dispersed to various places. Construction of the dam was halted during the war, and when Arimine Dam was completed in 1959 (Showa 34), the residents sank to the bottom of the lake. At Otawa Pass, there is a literary monument to Nakagawa Yoichi's "Heavenly Yugao."
