A collective name for a group of architects who were active mainly in Amsterdam from the beginning of the 20th century. Influenced by HP Berlage, the designer of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (1903), they aimed to create a realistic society by fusing public life with art. Their handicraft-like style, using brick as a material, is rich in organic expression. They mainly demonstrated their skills in designing apartment buildings, with M. de Klerk playing a central role. Some of their representative works include the Eichenhaart Apartments (13) and the Henriette Roenerplein Apartments (20). Other examples include JM van der Mey's Shipping Society Building (16). With the economic depression and the soaring cost of bricks, their style declined around 1930.
