A Mesolithic culture found in Northern Europe. It occurred after the end of the Ice Age and when forests gradually expanded, so it can be said to be a culture that adapted to the forests. Microliths are also found, but a defining feature of this culture is the appearance of stone axes for felling and working wood. There are also many bone and horn tools made from animal bones and horns. It is clear that there was a shift from the Paleolithic period, which focused on hunting colonial animals, to a balanced lifestyle of gathering, fishing, and hunting. The reference site is the Magremose site in Denmark. [Tsuyoshi Fujimoto] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
