Oil used to prevent rust on metals, especially iron. Also called rust-preventive oil. By forming a protective oil film on the metal surface and blocking oxygen and moisture in the air, it prevents rust from occurring during specific periods such as storage, transportation, and maintenance of metal products. The JIS includes the following five types of rust-preventive oil. (1) Fingerprint-removing rust-preventive oil Used to remove fingerprints and sweat from machinery. (2) Solvent-diluted rust-preventive oil The ingredients that create the rust-preventive film are dissolved and dispersed in a petroleum-based solvent.

金属とくに鉄などのさび止めのために用いられる油。防錆（ぼうせい）油ともいう。金属表面に油の保護膜をつくり，空気中の酸素や水分を遮断することによって，金属製品の保管，輸送，保守など特定期間中のさびの発生を防ぐ。JISには次の5種類のさび止め油が含まれる。(1)指紋除去型さび止め油　機械類についた指紋や汗の除去に使う。(2)溶剤希釈型さび止め油　さび止め被膜をつくる成分を石油系溶剤に溶解，分散させてある。
