A mammal of the Bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla (illustration). A small antelope with four small, straight horns that lives in India and Nepal. The horns are usually only found in males, and the first two are always smaller than the last two, usually 2.5 to 3.8 cm long, while the last two are usually 8 to 10 cm long, with a maximum of 18.4 cm. No other species in the Bovidae family has four horns. For this reason, they are often hunted for decorative purposes, despite their small horns. Occasionally, females with horns are seen. The body color is reddish brown on the back and white on the ventral side.

偶蹄目ウシ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。インドとネパールにすむ4本の小さなまっすぐにのびる角をもつ小型のアンテロープ。角はふつう雄のみに生じ，前の2本は後の2本に比べてつねに小さく，ふつう長さ2.5～3.8cm，後の2本はふつう長さ8～10cm，最大で18.4cm。角を4本もつ種はウシ科ではほかにない。このため，角が大きくないにもかかわらず装飾用としてしばしば狩られる。まれに角をもつ雌が見られる。体色は背側が赤褐色，腹側が白色。
